Top 10 Questions Coaches Get Asked

As a coach, I get asked a lot of questions. There is a lot of variety in how the questions are posed, from thoughtful business owners asking for advice because they could use some help to skeptics who sometimes don’t use any decorum when voicing distain for the coaching industry. Often the latter, is because they have been burned by salespeople in the past.

Salesy coaches who promise the world and don’t deliver or have the results to back up their claims turn off just about everyone. I personally believe in a no pressure approach, I call “Leading with Passion”. When we are pressured into something it feels forceful, possibly causing us to take an unwanted action. In the end, we might feel conned into buying something we didn’t need. This is low vibrational sales. On the other hand, when we feel passionate about something we are inspired. If a coach speaks about their passion for helping others and shares results they have helped their clients attain this makes everyone excited. This creates the desire to change lives and we feel liberated to choose the best path forward without pressure. So if the potential client decides to work with us, it’s exciting for both parties. I encourage coaches to create offerings that provide so many valuable resources and lead clients to outstanding results, that people hear about you from word of mouth. This is the path to being in high demand as a coach and getting your clients the best results.

Now we will go over the top 10 questions life coaches get asked with brief answers to each. This Q and A will be helpful for those thinking of hiring a coach or if you are wanting to become one yourself.

Are you ready? Let’s get started.

Question #01: "What is a life coach?"

This is one of the most common questions that people ask when they are first introduced to the concept of life coaching. Essentially, a life coach is someone who helps people achieve their goals and overcome challenges. Life coaches can help with everything from career advice to relationship advice. It's important to remember that life coaching is not therapy. Life coaches do not focus on the past, but rather on the present and future.

Question #02: "How can a life coach help me?"

This is a great question! A life coach can help you in many different ways. They can help you identify your goals, limiting beliefs, help you create more balance in your life, help with morning and evening rituals for success, develop a plan to achieve your goals, and provide accountability and support along the way. Life coaches help you overcome challenges and obstacles that are holding you back from achieving your goals so that you get real results.

Question #03: "I'm not sure I need a life coach. How do I know if I would benefit from one?"

If you're not sure if you need a life coach, the best way to find out is to talk to one! Many life coaches offer low cost introductory calls. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, learn more about what life coaching is, and get a feel for whether or not it would be a good fit for you.

Question #04: "I'm not sure I can afford a life coach. What are your fees?"

This is a valid concern. Life coaching is an investment, and it's important to make sure that you can afford the fees before you commit to working with a life coach. That being said, life coaching can be very affordable. Some coaches charge by the session, while others charge by the month or even the year. There are also many different payment options available, so be sure to ask about that when you are shopping for a life coach.

Question #05: "I'm not sure I'm ready to commit to working with a life coach. What if I change my mind?"

When we commit to something it’s important to see it through. Life coaching is a big commitment, and it's important to make sure that you are ready for it before you dive in. That being said, many life coaches offer flexible payment options and have cancellation policies. As we work on ourselves and out lives some fears may come up, some limiting beliefs too. I think it’s important to see your coaching through and not give up when things get challenging, it’s through the challenges that we experience the greatest growth.

Question #06: "What if I don't like my life coach?"

This is a possibility, but it's not necessarily a deal breaker. If you don't like your life coach, it’s important to uncover why. Is it because they are pushing you too hard, they don’t share your preferred way of communicating. A lot of these challenges can be overcome by having open and honest communication with your coach and expressing your needs. At worst, you can simply stop working with them when the commitment ends. Remember, you are in control of this relationship. You can also shop around and find a different life coach that may be a better fit for you.

Question #07: "What if I don’t Have the Time?"

I hear this all the time. If this is you, I dare you to check your screen time on your phone to see how much time you spend scrolling on social media, on apps, searching the web mindlessly, shopping on amazon. We all have time for things that are a priority for us, so it’s about deciding to take your life to another level.

Question #08: "What should I expect from my life coach?"

This is a great question! You should expect your life coach to be supportive, helpful, and knowledgeable. You should also expect them to be open and honest with you. Remember, your life coach is here to help you achieve your goals. They are not here to be your best friend, to judge you or tell you what to do.

Question #09: "What shouldn't I expect from my life coach?"

This is also a good question! You should not expect your life coach to be perfect. They are human, just like you. You should also not expect them to have all the answers, they don’t. Life coaching is about helping you find your own answers, there is a lot of truth and wisdom within you. Finally, you should not expect your life coach to be a mind reader. They can't read your thoughts, so be sure to communicate openly and honestly with them.

Question #010: "I'm still not sure if life coaching is right for me. What should I do?"

If you're still not sure if life coaching is right for you, the best thing to do is talk to a life coach! Write out your questions before hand, then ask away. After the call or meeting ask yourself how did it feel engaging with this person? You can meditate and ask for inner guidance to help lead you to the right answers. Remember, it's all about what's best for you. So take your time, do your research, and make the decision that feel right.
